2022-23
Bob the Man on the Moon
Ovi, the friendly alien, crashed into our school field this term. She's been visiting our classroom and answering lots of questions from the children. The children gave Ovi a tour of the school and introduced her to the other classes, she even helped give the dinners out at dinner time.
We have been reading "Bob, the Man on the Moon" in English. Whilst he was visiting Preston, he dropped in to se us in Barton. The children asked him lots of questions about his job, his dog Barry and we even told him about Ovi the alien.
It was Ovi's 1027th birthday last term so year 2 decided to plan a party for her. We chose games to play such as a sack race, scooter race, penalty shoot out and hide and seek to begin the day. the children chose presents to give her and even designed a cake. Linking it with their science work the children designed a healthy meal/snakc that they cooked and brought in to share with everybody. Here are some pictures of the chefs in action:
Science day - forensic science
On science day year 2 took part in a forensic science workshop. Using the clues left behind, we successfully solved a crime and found out which dog was stolen, who stole the dog and whos dog it was. We learnt about different types of finger prints, all the different kinds of DNA, and different tests we can use to help solve crimes.
History
In History we have been learning about Explorers! so far we have talked about Christopher Colombus and Neil Armstrong. We've been discussing what they did and how this affected us today. What they brought back from their journeys and what we have learnt from them.
At playtime, some of the boys decided to build their own rocket, like Neil Armstrong, and used lots of different things to create diffrent sections. It included Air crontol, Seatbelts and skipping ropes for wires!
Forest School
This term we have been taking part in some forest schooling. The children have learnt lots of new skills such as, building a waterproof den, creating mud faces, using a splint, and doing some bug collecting.
