Headteacher's Letter
Learning TOGETHER, rooted in GOD.
Pupils at St Lawrence Church of England Primary School are easy to distinguish by the personal qualities they present. They are happy, confident, articulate children with a love of learning and a sense of service, who recognise and celebrate their own individuality and that of other members of our community. They are generous, kind and welcoming; they are forgiving and understand justice. With God by their side, they face the world with resilience, integrity and joy.
So reads the school’s Statement of Intent and this is at the very heart of everything we do. Our small class sizes mean that we know our children as individuals and are able to provide a truly personalised learning experience, giving additional support or extending learning as appropriate, so that each child achieves to the very best of their abilities.
Standards in reading, writing, maths and science are excellent. Our SATs results are consistently above national average and you may be forgiven for thinking that teaching these subjects is our main focus. To be honest, in the mornings when a child’s concentration is at its peak, it is. Afternoon sessions are very different though – this is when our school “comes alive” and lessons move to a more creative and less formal style. Not every child can excel at reading, writing or maths but every child can excel at something and we use this time to find out what that something is. It is our intention that every child will leave St Lawrence’s with a skill or talent they can be proud of and a love for learning that will equip them for life.
Browsing the school website and video prospectus will give you a taste of the primary school experience that we can offer your child. We believe that this is the best school in the area but only you will know whether it is the right school for your child. Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. We do not have an open day as such, as we prefer to give prospective parents the opportunity to experience the school on a normal working day. We do however, ask that you get in touch with us before your visit so that I can be sure to give you my undivided attention and introduce you to some of the children and staff who make up the St Lawrence School Family. I look forward to meeting you soon.
