Office Staff

Mrs Louise Higham - Bursar

Teaching Staff

Mrs Julie Goodwin - Headteacher

I first came to Barton St Lawrence School as Acting Headteacher in September 2007. The intention was that I should return to my own school and my own post as Deputy Headteacher once a permanent headteacher had been appointed. However, I quickly fell in love with the place and applied for the permanent position. I was delighted to be appointed to the substantive post in January 2008 and have been here ever since!

The school was very different then with only three classrooms and 52 pupils. Since then our number on roll has more than tripled, we have seven classrooms, a nursery and breakfast and after school club. The school may be considerably different but I love it just as much today as I did all those years ago!

Though I am largely office-based now, I am still passionate about teaching and I aim to get into class as often as I can. This includes covering lessons for teachers who have appointments or are on a course, accompanying class trips and leading worship. You will find me out on the school yard with the children before school each morning. I also enjoy attending PTFA events and am an active member of the PTFA Committee.

When I am not in school, I enjoy walking my dog, Piper and spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren, Annabelle, Bea and Arlo. I also enjoy travelling, gardening, playing the flute, knitting and sewing.

Mrs Helen Lonsdale - Reception Class Teacher

I have been teaching for over 20 years both as a Primary School Teacher and as a Lecturer in Further Education. I am absolutely delighted to return to EYFS in such a welcoming, positive and supportive school. I will strive to make your child's first year at 'big school' the most enjoyable that I can - time filled with rich learning activities and play experiences. The topics will be developed around the children's interests to engage and stimulate their developing minds. Clothes will be dirty but hopefully smiles will be big.

Mrs Sarah Woodvine - Year 1 Class Teacher

Mr Richard Crook - Year 2 Class Teacher and Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral Lead)

I've been teaching at Barton St. Lawrence since September 2012, working from Year 2 to Year 4. I am currently teaching the children in Year 2.

I am the leader of the outdoor and creative curriculum and am the subject leader for Mathematics and Physical Education.

I currently run the Tag-Rugby club on Tuesday and Thursday and really enjoy taking children to sporting events.

Please take a few moments to take a look at the fantastic work we have been doing in Year 2.

Mrs Harriet Pilling - Year 3 Class Teacher

I have been a teacher at St Lawrence since 2008 and have taught Years 1 - 3 during that time. I am now the Year 3 teacher and very much enjoy helping children transition from KS1 to KS2.

I am subject lead for Art and Music, both of which I am passionate about. I love to help children express themselves creatively and am involved in setting up many artistic and musical workshops and activities throughout school. From September 2021, I am also the school Special Needs Coordinator.

Please take the time to look at the Year 3 class page to see what we have been up to recently.

Mr Tom McKnight - Year 4 Class Teacher

I joined Barton St Lawrence School in September 2019 and currently teach in Year 4. I instantly felt attached to the whole school ethos and everything the school has to offer.
I am the current leader of Geography and Science and I love to see children learn in a creative and inquisitive way.

Within the classroom, I try to embed an independent approach to learning and allow children to flourish in any way possible. While I enjoy teaching all subjects throughout the curriculum, I especially enjoy teaching PE, Literacy, Science and History.

Outside of school, I’m a keen sportsman and I love football and golf. I also love being in the outdoors and especially the countryside.

Please take a moment to look at Year 4's class page and have a look at the amazing things we have been up to.

Mr James Davis - Year 5 Class Teacher

I joined Barton St Lawrence School in September 2018 and currently teach Year 5. In previous schools, I have taught Year 3 and Year 4. I lead Computing and History in school.

Within our classroom I hope to foster a learning environment where the children take independence of their own learning and explore subjects in a way that interests them.

While I enjoy teaching all subjects throughout the curriculum, I especially enjoy teaching Maths, Literacy, Science and History. Outside of school I am interested in sport, especially ones involving cars!

Please take a moment to look at Year 5's class page to see what we have been up to recently.

Mrs Rachel Sharp - Year 6 Class Teacher and Deputy Headteacher

I am delighted to have been welcomed into the Barton St Lawrence school family as Deputy Headteacher this Summer Term. I am using this term out of class to get to know the wonderful children, and the whole school community.

In my teaching career so far, I have had responsibility for leading subject areas such as English, Maths Mastery, Art, Music, PE; and in my previous post as Deputy Headteacher, I led whole-school Teaching and Learning and Curriculum, as well as Assessment. I am very much looking forward to working with the talented staff team to lead this vibrant and thriving school.

From September, I will be class-based and plan to teach an engaging, challenging and supportive curriculum. I am passionate about underpinning the curriculum with creative learning experiences, which provide appropriate challenge and support for all children. I love to use drama activities, as well as many other practical opportunities to bring the curriculum to life, making learning memorable and meaningful for the children. I enjoy taking the children’s learning beyond the classroom, whether it’s through school trips, visitors or exploring the outdoor environment. I am excited to utilise the fantastic outdoor facilities at St Lawrence to enhance the children’s learning experiences.
Out of school, I enjoy spending time with my family: my husband and my little girl, Phoebe. We have a King Charles Cavalier, called Meg. We like going on big walks, exploring the countryside and always end up in a café with a piece of cake and a cup of tea! I also enjoy travelling, watching live music and spending time with my close friends.
